Studiocom in the studio for Kleenex Web & Print; Share the Softness.

August 31st, 2010

Last week was spent casting and shooting with Studiocom for their client Kleenex . The whole shoot came together rather quickly. We put the word out through social networking about the casting, cast the job 4 days later, and shot the job 2 days after the casting.  The stylist Fawn Ortega had her hands full shopping for general sizes of winter clothes in August to help supplement the models own wardrobe.

We photographed  a total of 20 people of different ages and demographic groups over the course of 2 days, needless to say they were 2 extremely full days jam packed with fun and a ton of softness.  3 Stylists kept everyone put together on and off the set while Brad was sitting with the folks from Studiocom indexing all of the images out of the camera for their viewing pleasure.  Chef Brett was cooking in our kitchen, and let me tell you he can cook, including a mean Bananas Foster.

Here are a couple of unretouched pictures from day 1. Tony our studio manager, and Todd from Studiocom, are having some fun sharing the softness. Really soft. And then we have young Sophie feeling the softness, with a different kind of cuteness.

Metal mavens Withered, and Prosthetic Records.

August 17th, 2010

I photographed the band Withered for Prosthetic Records last week.  They were in need of promotional photography for the release of their new album, Dualitas. We are in the process of retouching images here at the studio, so more to come soon.

However, while you wait, here is a single portrait of the bass guitar player Mike Longoria that I took using a Profoto ring light. Click to experience.

As promised, more. Below is a group shot of Withered, retouched by my partner at method3, Brad Kaye.

After we sat down and discussed concepts during a pre-production meeting with Withered, we decided to maintain some continuity between the new paintings for the record art, and the promo photography that they commissioned me to shoot. I felt the best way to achieve the desired look was through multiple exposures. Using various organic objects, and layering them with the band members portraits we were able to achieve the feel of the original art work by Paul Romano without copying him stylistically. We also opted for negative space in this group shot so that the image is capable of being cropped in various ways depending on the desired use. The result is extremely METAL. Click to experience.

illy Coffee spot, not stain for Coca-Cola and artistic Image.

August 17th, 2010

The Coca-Cola Company and illycaffè Spa finalize Joint Venture, launch premium ready-to-drink espresso-based coffee beverages.

Just finished up shooting an illy coffee spot with Artistic Image and the 5D Mark II. Ed Dye at ai contacted me 2 weeks ago about being the director of photography on a spot for illy coffee that Ken Soons was directing for their client Coca-Cola. So Ken Soons and I embarked on a gorilla style bare bones 5d gala in the Georgia heat. It is in post production at the moment, so more to come.

Environmental and Studio Portraits of Puddles.

August 11th, 2010

Mike Geier and Georgie stopped by the studio recently for a portrait session involving the ever charismatic Puddles. www.puddlespityparty.com, www.bigmikegeier.com

We took some photographs inside the studio, and then ventured out into the hot weather and walked down the railroad tracks outside the studio for a portrait.  Thanks to the Profoto Pro 7-B 1200 for the light on the environmental portrait! In house retouching by Brad @ Method3.

Ballroom Scene Staring Puddles and his Pity Party.

July 26th, 2010

This is some footage from a short that I started shooting here in Atlanta. Brad Kaye, my partner at Method 3 edited this together for Puddles Pity Party to use on his website.

I was asked to be the director of photography by Keith Roberts a budding local director. We are shooting in several locations around Atlanta, and working with some real talented people. Big Mike Geier has a starring role, as does the ever talented Michael Laurino. Both gentleman are true professionals that are a pleasure to work with on set. We have shot for 3 days, so more to come in the near future.

This entire spot was shot on the Canon 5D MK II. I love this camera, it so great to be able to shoot full HD with a camera that is so familiar. The 5D MK II has become a real asset commercially because it allows me  to photograph for print, and seamlessly move to shooting digital film spots with the same equipment and same set up. The HDSLR is really revolutionizing the industry, and it is here to stay.
